Minutes of the August 10, 2009 Staying Put Board Meeting
A meeting of the Staying Put Board took place on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 4:30PM at the New Canaan Library.
Donna Scimone distributed details concerning Membership/ Recruitment. We have 5 new members since last month's meeting. Tom Ferguson reported that SP ran a surplus in our finances in July thanks to two sizeable donations. The audit and tax filings are almost complete, thanks to Dan Ward.
Pat Stoddard reported that the development committee is now past the planning stage and into "the doing stage." The Board will receive lists of those names they signed up for to write personal notes requesting financial support for SP. Pat Stoddard is hosting the note-writing event at her home on Sept 24 and 25. Volunteers will be stuffing envelopes on Sept 24 and 25th. If you are writing your notes prior to these dates, please put a sticky note with your recipient's name on the note card so it can be put into the proper envelope. Return early written notes the week of September 21 or before.
Memorial contributions have been received. August 31st is the last date to have individual names submitted to be included in the published "in memory of" list of the newsletter, Staying in Touch, which will be sent along with the fundraising letters. September 15th (or around that date).
Jim Hollyday discussed the need to fill board vacancies and the selection process. The Nominating Committee recommended and the Board approved a list of individuals to be solicited to join the board (as openings arise). Currently there are two openings. Criteria for being on the board were discussed including: the ability to attend most board meetings, ability to volunteer for SP, ability to serve on a committee, willingness to commit in some financial way (no minimum amount). Discussion of how the Advisory board can help the public to think positively about the SP mission followed.
Judy Sherman (on behalf of the membership committee) will get the ball rolling for a "snowbird" information session on October 14th at Tanis Erdmann's house. It will be entertaining and informational.
We discussed a celebration for when we receive our 1000th request call. It would make a great news story and give SP some extra publicity. Also keep testimonials from members coming to Tanis who will forward them to the webmaster.
Upcoming events include the following: dinner at Aloi on Sept 15th is a possibility. A small gathering at a member's deck also is being explored. Dr. Shuster (How to live to be 100!) is finding a date for us. A tour of Constance Old's art studio is tentatively scheduled for Sept 29th. October events will include Stamford Symphony, hike with George McEvoy, Steve Monroe's talk about Life Care Planning, Brassitas Restaurant, and IMAX theatre. October 24th is available at Lapham from 3-5:30 (exact time TBD) and SP can host a "Show your Stuff" event - think collections, handcrafts, important "stuff" etc. This informal gathering will be open to all.
Respectfully submitted,
Donna Simone
